Desktop Menu:
The Desktop Menu is what makes PopUp! Deluxe earn its
title. Using this menu allows you to have multiple "Themes"
for your Windows sessions. A theme consists of different
wallpaper, sounds, and screensavers that are all related.
The options and how to use them are:
Change Theme:
At first you aren't able to use this. Once you have setup
a theme, this is basically how you get to it. When PopUp!
Deluxe installed it considered your current setup as its
first theme, and named it Default. This way you can get
back to your original setup anytime. As you add themes, they
will appear here, to switch to one just click on it.
Edit Theme:
Choosing this will show you a list of themes already setup
with PopUp! Deluxe, and if there are less than 5, it will
give you the option to add one. If you click on an existing
theme you are allowed to go to areas individually. When
adding, you are stepped through them. Here's an example on
adding a theme. Once you click add the first thing PopUp!
Deluxe will ask you is for a title.
Title Screen:
On this screen you give your theme a descriptive title.
We'll call our theme Deep Woods. We'd type in Deep Woods and
click ok. Next we are sent to the Wallpaper Setup Screen.
Wallpaper Setup:
Here choose from 3 Wallpaper Options, No Wallpaper leaves
the background blank. Single Wallpaper, lets you choose 1
to use all the time, and Rotate Wallpaper, lets you pick as
many as you want and change them from every 5 to 120 minutes.
when you choose to use Wallpaper, you must set Wallpaper(s)
to use. Clicking on Change or Setup will let you do that.
For our example we will choose rotate, then adjust the time
to every 15 minutes. When all options are valid the Done
button is enabled.
Wallpaper Browser:
The Wallpaper Browse appears when you Setup or Change
Wallpaper. If you are Single paper mode, browse till you
find one you like then click ok. In Rotation mode, pick as
many as you want, but at least 2 are required. If you change
your mind you can click on the picture name in the Rotation
List, and then click Remove to delete it. In our example
theme we could find Bitmaps (.BMP) of trees and/or wildlife
to use. Once you are done PopUp! Deluxe takes you back to
Wallpaper Setup, choosing done brings the next section.
Sound setup:
This screen enables you to assign sounds to system events,
much like the control panel. Use different sounds for each
theme for the best effect. Some options such as Ring In are
only availible to you if you are using Windows For
Workgroups. Just click on change to change any sounds for
the theme you are designing. In our exapmle we could use
sounds like birdchirps for default beep and a lion roar for
critical stop. When you are done choose OK.
Screen Saver Setup:
You are presented with a list of standard Windows screen savers
in this section. If you are using a different program for a
screen saver, choose none. If you want to use a windows screen
saver in this theme but another program (external) screen saver
in another, choose the one you want for this theme, and remove
the other from your startup group. (You can put it in the
theme startup group for the other theme.) After you've made
your selection click OK.
Startup:
This area is very important to a theme. Programs placed in
the Windows startup group will be run for ALL themes. Programs
listed here will only be run when you are using THIS theme.
Use this for special screen savers, or applications. It is
possible to only put PopUp! Deluxe in your Windows startup,
and put any others into the theme startup for the theme that
you want to use them in.
When all settings are right, click OK. Your theme will be
available to you on the Change Theme Menu.
Delete Button:
This button will remove a theme. You cannot delete a theme
while it is current.
Icon Hider:
This little gizmo is handy. What it does is monitors the
desktop for minimized icons that you tell it to. When it
finds one it hides it. Designed for screen savers that
don't hide their own icon, it can be used on any icon. To
use it click add, then right click on the minimized icon.
The icon should dissapear and its caption will go into
the Hidden Icons list. To get it back simply click on its
name and it will return. The name goes into the To Be Hidden
list, and if not removed from there, the icon will be hidden
the next time it is minimized, as long as Hider is active.
